Do preservatives, nitrates, food additives, and other food chemicals cause cancer?
We hear a lot of news stories linking various additives and chemicals and food colorings with cancer risk. It’s certainly possible. But at this point, the evidence hasn’t shown any real connection. In fact, some preservatives seem to be antioxidants, which could mean they’re actually protecting us.
Dr. Stegall’s comments: I feel that it is risky to wait on evidence to show a clear connection between additives, chemicals, and food colorings and cancer, for two reasons. One, it would be very hard to design long-term clinical studies to prove that these substances cause cancer, and two, it should be common sense that these ingredients are not good for us. We should be eating as “close to the earth” as possible, meaning that we should be eating foods in their natural state. This means little to no processing of food. In general, these minimally processed foods are found along the perimeter of the supermarket.
Here is your shopping checklist:
– Eat organic as much as possible
-Avoid genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
-Avoid preservatives as much as possible
-Do not use artificial flavors and colors
This is a common-sense approach to cancer nutrition, whether you have cancer or want to prevent it. We don’t need studies to tell us that this is good nutrition.
Preventing and Reversing Cancer Naturally: The Anticancer Diet Shopping List
Despite being overlooked for decades, volumes of scientific evidence prove that diet and nutrition play a leading role in cancer development. Only in recent years have mainstream physicians and health groups begun to recognize the importance of our lifestyle choices when it comes to preventing and reversing cancer. Even the WHO report recommends a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains as a powerful way to help stave off this disease.
Dr. Stegall’s comments: Research is finally catching up (somewhat) when it comes to the importance of nutrition and cancer. Sadly, many mainstream medical providers minimize its importance to patients. Many patients have told me that their oncologist said “it doesn’t matter what you eat.” Most chemotherapy infusion centers will recommend horrible meal replacement shakes, full of sugar, fillers, and preservatives. Even worse, many of these centers have a candy dish for patients after they finish their treatments each day. You won’t find either in my clinic!
Not Safe To Eat: Rats Fed Lifetime Of GMO Corn Grow Horrifying Tumors, Die Very Early
Genetically modified (GM) corn is rat poison. That is at least what the results of a controversial study linking GM feed with cancerous tumor growths in rats would seem to suggest.
During a two-year study, originally published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, Professor Gilles-Eric Seralini of the University of Caen and colleagues discovered that rats fed Monsanto’s “Roundup Ready” corn developed significantly more tumors than rats not fed GM corn. In addition, rats fed a GMO diet developed aggressive tumors and died sooner than rats in the control group, reports Natural News.
Dr. Stegall’s comments: Genetically modified corn should have no place in your diet. If tumors are occurring in lab rats fed GMO corn, it is not unreasonable to assume that it can and will happen in humans as well. I believe that God created our food to be compatible with our bodies, and when we try to tinker with that too much – to the point that we are genetically modifying them – we will have problems. Our bodies are remarkable in that they can withstand a lot of insults, but repeatedly ingesting GMOs is bound to have consequences.
